Nav Haq appointed curator of fourth Lahore Biennale

festival-fair · 2026-03-24

Nav Haq, the Associate Director of M HKA – Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp, is set to curate the upcoming fourth Lahore Biennale, which will debut in spring 2027. Based in Antwerp, Haq manages the museum's artistic initiatives. Recently, M HKA encountered challenges when the Belgian government suggested relocating its collection to Smak in Ghent and scrapping plans for a new building, though they later reversed this decision. The Lahore Biennale has experienced its share of difficulties: in 2017, Rashid Rana resigned as artistic director before the inaugural edition; the second edition, led by Hoor Al-Qasimi, dealt with the COVID-19 crisis; and the third edition, curated by John Tain, was finally held in 2024 after delays due to political unrest. Haq, with previous roles at Arnolfini in Bristol and Gasworks in London, emphasizes his research's focus on "values of coexistence and progressive internationalism," reflecting the complexities of a multipolar 21st-century landscape. He remarked, "Lahore, a long-standing hub for art and culture, embodies both profound historical significance and contemporary energy."
