Naufus Ramírez-Figueroa's Queer Hybrids Confront Colonial Legacies in International Exhibitions

exhibition · 2026-04-20

The solo exhibition 'Linnæus in Tenebris' by Naufus Ramírez-Figueroa at CAPC Musée d'Art Contemporain de Bordeaux showcased hybrids of humans and plants, critiquing both Enlightenment rationalism and colonialism while alluding to the Guatemalan Civil War (1960–96). In May 2017, his performance 'Incremental Architecture' (2015) was reinterpreted as 'A Brief History of Architecture in Guatemala' at the Guggenheim. The 2016 piece 'Corazón del Espantapájaros' drew inspiration from a political protest play, while 'God's Reptilian Finger' (2016) connected conspiracy theories to Mormon practices in Guatemala. 'Shit-Baby and the Crumpled Giraffe' (2017) examined Freudian stages. 'The House at Kawinal' is scheduled at New Museum from 6 June to 9 September 2018, and 'The Green Ray' is on display until 14 January at daadgalerie, Berlin.
