Nature Matérielle: Pugliese Artists Explore Natural Roots in Conversano

The exhibition 'Nature Matérielle' at Galleria Cattedrale in Conversano, curated by Nicola Zito, brings together five artists from Puglia to explore the connection between nature and sculptural material. Featured artists include established names Iginio Iurilli and Miki Carone, alongside emerging talents Daniela Giglio, Francesca Macina, and Raffaele Vitto. Iurilli's neo-baroque sculptures, such as 'Sky Blue Shiver' and 'Maternità della foglia di ulivo', emphasize ecological themes and Mediterranean vitality. Carone's works, like 'Kiss me Baby' and 'Operetta Anti-futurista', evoke a playful, neon-pop universe. Giglio's sculptures, notably 'Speranza', use marble, travertine, and plaster to create 'sculptures of light' that move from phenomenology toward abstraction. Macina's series 'Vertebrates' employs organic materials like cardboard, paper, wool, and cotton to depict wild landscapes, inspired by Epicurean and Lucretian philosophy. Vitto's works 'Eredità' and 'Origine' rework agrarian culture and the concept of 'Mother matter' to impose order on chaos. The exhibition celebrates the ancestral, wild nature of Puglia.
