National Portrait Gallery London to Explore Michael Jackson's Influence on Contemporary Art

The National Portrait Gallery in London has announced 'Michael Jackson: On the Wall', an exhibition running from June 28 to October 21, 2018, that examines the pop icon's impact on contemporary art. Curated by director Nicholas Cullinan, the show features works by 32 artists including Andy Warhol, David LaChapelle, Kehinde Wiley, and Isa Genzken, drawn from public and private collections worldwide. Highlights include Warhol's 1982 portrait that declared Jackson a pop icon, LaChapelle's 'An Illuminating Path', and Wiley's equestrian portrait with Napoleonic iconography. The exhibition is part of the museum's 2018 program, which also includes shows on Monet, Degas, and Victorian photographers. Cullinan described the approach as 'completely new and radical' for exploring cultural impact through contemporary art, aiming to open new dialogues between art and popular culture.
