Since 2012, National Museums Liverpool's House of Memories programme has used museum objects to stimulate memories and conversations for people living with dementia. Programme Manager Lizzie Ward emphasizes that museums are full of objects that can trigger personal histories. The initiative involves co-creation with those directly affected by dementia, who are considered 'experts by experience.' It offers a Memory Suitcase Loan Service for free reminiscence sessions and a My House of Memories app with thousands of objects globally, expanding to the USA and Singapore. In 2021, the mobile immersive museum 'My House of Memories On the Road' launched, reaching over 6,000 people. During Eurovision, the team collaborated with BBC Archive to bring Eurovision classics to care homes. Ward reports long-term benefits including improved mobility and communication. The programme demonstrates museums' role in wellbeing, not just preserving history.
