National Museum of Contemporary Art Athens launches year-long exhibition cycle dedicated to women artists
The National Museum of Contemporary Art Athens (EMΣT) is presenting a year-long exhibition series titled 'What If Women Ruled the World?' until November 10, 2024, under the direction of Katerina Gregos. This initiative includes 18 solo exhibitions featuring 46 artists, highlighting the historical lack of representation for women, who made up merely 37% of those exhibited in the past. Among the prominent contributors are Susan Meiselas, Cornelia Parker, and Yael Bartana. Additionally, a related exhibition named 'WOMEN, together' displays the works of 24 artists, including Tracey Moffatt. Gregos intends to examine the influence of female leadership on governance. Looking ahead, EMΣT's 2025 focus will be on the dynamics between humans and animals. The Women Artists Market Report 2024 indicated that only 25% of commercial inquiries on Artsy were directed towards women artists.
