National Gallery to Explore Monet's Architecture in Spring 2018 Exhibition
The National Gallery in London will present 'The Credit Suisse Exhibition: Monet & Architecture' from April 9 to July 29, 2018. This is the first exhibition to focus on the role of architecture in Claude Monet's work, spanning his career from the mid-1860s to his 1912 Venice paintings. Over 75 works will be displayed, including series paintings of Dutch landscapes, Argenteuil suburbs, Rouen Cathedral, London, and Venice. The exhibition will feature unprecedented pairings and rare groupings, such as five Dutch works from the 1870s, ten paintings of Argenteuil, seven Rouen Cathedrals, eight London paintings, and nine Venice canvases. Monet, traditionally seen as a painter of landscapes and gardens, is recontextualized through his depictions of bridges, buildings, and urban scenes.
