National Gallery brings masterpieces to UK streets via digital screens
During the pandemic, the National Gallery in London launched 'The Nation's Gallery is now on the nation's streets', a project supported by Ocean Outdoor, a company specializing in digital outdoor screens. For two weeks, seven iconic artworks from the museum's collection are displayed on large digital sites in Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, London, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, and Southampton. The featured works include Vincent van Gogh's 'Sunflowers' and 'Wheat Field with Cypresses', Claude Monet's 'The Water-Lily Pond', Jan van Eyck's 'The Arnolfini Portrait', Georges Seurat's 'Bathers at Asnières', Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun's 'Self-Portrait with a Straw Hat', and Henri Rousseau's 'Surprised!'. National Gallery director Gabriele Finaldi stated that the museum's role is to provide access to great artworks for inspiration and comfort during difficult times, expressing gratitude to Ocean Outdoor for enabling the initiative to reach more people.
