Nathaniel Mellors and Harris Museum win £40,000 Contemporary Art Society Award for Beckett-inspired film
The Contemporary Art Society Annual Award 2014 has been granted to British artist Nathaniel Mellors and the Harris Museum & Art Gallery. This sixth edition of the prize provides £40,000 to a regional museum for commissioning a significant new artwork for its permanent collection, specifically targeting artists not yet widely represented in UK museum holdings. Mellors will produce a film that serves as the focal point of a fifteen-month exhibition exploring Samuel Beckett and the Theatre of the Absurd. The project will integrate fiction, sculpture, performance, and film. Preston Bus Station in Lancashire, a recently Grade II listed brutalist structure, will function as both film set and inspiration for this hybrid work. The award announcement was made on 24 November 2014.
