Nathalie Djurberg e Hans Berg: Rites of Passage at Porta Sant'Agostino

exhibition · 2026-05-04

The Swedish artist duo Nathalie Djurberg and Hans Berg present their first exhibition in Bergamo, titled 'Rites of Passage', at the historic Porta Sant'Agostino in Città Alta. Curated by Stefano Raimondi and Claudia Santeroni for The Blank's ongoing investigation into the intersection of cinema and contemporary art, the show runs until March 31, 2019. Three stop-motion videos—'Dark Side of the Moon' (2017), 'One Need Not be a House, The Brain Has Corridors' (2018), and 'Am I Allowed To Step On This Nice Carpet' (2018)—are projected in a custom installation. The works explore hidden human desires and the theme of passage, symbolized by the venue itself, a former gateway to the city. The installation includes purple carpets for viewers to sit or lie on, and two bird sculptures, 'Sunrise' and 'Sunset', placed east and west to evoke cyclicality. The videos feature plasticine characters and surreal narratives, such as a grotesque Alice in Wonderland seeking an entrance in 'Dark Side of the Moon'. The curators selected the works in dialogue with the artists to align with the concept of thresholds and portals, linking to Porta Sant'Agostino's historical role as the main access to Bergamo. The exhibition is part of the Bergamo Film Meeting.
