exhibition · 2026-04-27

A major retrospective of Natalia Goncharova (1881–1962) has opened at the Ateneum Art Museum in Helsinki, featuring over 100 works—many shown for the first time in Finland. The exhibition covers her output from the first four decades of the 20th century, highlighting her role as a leading female figure of the Russian avant-garde who inspired experimental artists in Russia and Western Europe. It traces her career from her 1913 solo exhibition in Moscow, through her partnership with Mikhail Larionov, to her final years in exile in Paris. The show includes paintings, illustrations, costumes, set designs, and ballet recordings. It is organized by the Ateneum Art Museum and Tate Modern, in collaboration with the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi and supported by the State Tretyakov Gallery. The exhibition runs from February 27 to May 17, 2020.
