NASCA Designs Diving Retreat in Izu Highlands

architecture-design · 2026-05-25

Japanese architecture firm NASCA has completed Mizu no Ie, a diving retreat in the Izu Highlands within Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, overlooking Mount Omuro. The 293-square-meter project, completed in 2024, was curated by Miwa Negoro and led by Hiroyuki Kano and Taiga Kitora, with Nobuaki Furuya as lead architect. Engineering consultants include Ryotaro Sakata Structural Engineers, Setsubikeikaku (MEP), and ModuleX (lighting). Photographed by Satoshi Asakawa, the retreat is categorized as sports architecture. The design aims to immerse visitors in the natural environment—water, air, vegetation, and climate—allowing them to engage all five senses and feel directly embraced by the surroundings.
