NASA's James Webb Telescope Images Reveal Artistic Processing of Cosmic Data
Last week, NASA unveiled the inaugural images captured by the James Webb Space Telescope, illustrating the artistic transformation of astronomical data prior to being shared with the public. Launched on December 25, 2021, Webb operates at infrared wavelengths and orbits more than a million miles from our planet. In contrast to Hubble, Webb is capable of detecting fainter celestial bodies and collecting information about distant galaxies and star formation. Joseph DePasquale's team assigns colors to the greyscale images based on artistic guidelines. Among the stunning visuals is the Carina Nebula, which resembles scenes from Earth.
