Napoli's Sanità district fights crime with street art and cinema

cultural-heritage · 2026-05-04

The second edition of the Wi-U Adolescenti in Arte project has kicked off in Naples' Sanità neighborhood, aiming to steer youngsters away from organized crime through engaging activities like street art, film tours, and workshops. This initiative is backed by the Comune di Napoli's welfare department and involves groups such as Il Grillo Parlante and Pianoterra Onlus. Vittorio Bianco from LESS Impresa Sociale Onlus emphasizes the project’s focus on combating the rise of youth gangs and minor recruitment. Notably, street artist Jorit Agoch will create a mural in June, drawing inspiration from local youth photos by Apogeo Records and cultural group 400ml. The name Wi-U cleverly fuses 'Guagliù' (kids) with 'Why You' and 'We-You' to foster community. Activities will also feature flash mobs and tours of iconic film sites.
