Naples names street after gallerist Lucio Amelio
On April 26, 2023, Via Lucio Amelio was officially opened in the San Carlo All'Arena area of Naples. Deputy Mayor Laura Lieto recognized Amelio as a visionary intellectual who imagined Naples as a 'world city.' Amelio (1931–1994) was instrumental in bringing Andy Warhol to Naples in 1975 and appeared in four of Warhol's silkscreens. He facilitated Warhol's collaboration with Joseph Beuys, which culminated in the 'Beuys by Warhol' exhibition in April 1980. In 1965, Amelio established the Modern Art Agency and launched Galleria Lucio Amelio in 1969, showcasing artists such as Robert Rauschenberg and Keith Haring. He also organized 'Terrae Motus' following the 1980 Irpinia earthquake and opened Pièce Unique in Paris in 1989, with the street naming serving to commemorate his contributions.
