Naples Celebrates Charles of Bourbon Tricentennial with Exhibition at Palazzo Reale

exhibition · 2026-04-27

In celebration of the 300th anniversary of Charles of Bourbon's birth, the Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the Municipality of Naples, in partnership with the Campania Museum Network and the National Library of Naples, launched the exhibition 'L’Età di Carlo, alle radici del gusto dell’antico' at the Palazzo Reale in Naples. This exhibition includes newly designed spaces, an international conference, and a documentary showcase that illustrates the significance of Carolinian Naples during the Enlightenment of the 18th century. It features materials from that era reflecting King Charles's initiatives in Naples, such as the Albergo dei Poveri and Teatro di San Carlo, along with archaeological finds from Herculaneum and Pompeii, including documents from the Royal Printing House and Herculaneum Academy.
