Naomi Beckwith Appointed Chief Curator at Guggenheim Following Nancy Spector's Departure

institutional · 2026-04-20

In June, Naomi Beckwith will assume the role of chief curator and deputy director at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, succeeding Nancy Spector, who resigned in October following allegations of racism. Although Spector was cleared of claims regarding mistreatment of guest curator Chaedria LaBouvier based on race, she left after 34 years with the institution. Currently, Beckwith is the senior curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) Chicago, a position she has held since 2011. There, she co-curated the inaugural survey of artist Howardena Pindell and organized exhibitions for various artists, including The Propeller Group and Keren Cytter. At the Guggenheim, she will manage collections, exhibitions, and curatorial programs, aiming to 'shape a new reality for arts and culture.'
