Nancy Floyd's 'Weathering Time' Wins OpenWalls Spotlight 2026
Nancy Floyd's extensive self-portrait series, 'Weathering Time,' spanning four decades, has been awarded the OpenWalls Spotlight 2026 accolade, a collaboration between the British Journal of Photography, WePresent, and Galerie Huit Arles. Commencing in 1982, the collection features more than 2,500 images that chronicle Floyd's journey through aging. A Professor Emerita of Photography at Georgia State University, she initially worked with a tripod, often capturing solitary moments in her home. Following her father's passing in May 2002, the focus of the project shifted to themes of loss after being unpublished for two decades. The series will be showcased at Galerie Huit Arles starting 6 July, alongside 25 single-image winners themed 'Homecoming,' during Rencontres d'Arles from 7 July. Judge Holly Fraser remarked that the works delve into concepts of home and belonging.
