Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah's 'La Vie sexuelle des femmes africaines' Published in French
Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah, a prominent feminist activist from Ghana, has unveiled the French edition of her book 'La Vie sexuelle des femmes africaines' (The Sex Lives of African Women) via Éditions Philippe Rey. This work features more than thirty narratives from women throughout Africa and its diaspora, exploring themes of love, sexuality, trauma, and societal expectations. Born in London in 1978 and raised in Accra, Sekyiamah remained a virgin until her marriage at 23. Inspired by writers such as Bell Hooks, she co-founded the blog 'Adventures from the Bedroom of African Women' in 2009. Initially published in English in 2021, the book draws on interviews conducted between 2015 and 2020 and seeks to challenge the stereotypes surrounding submissive Black women. The French edition is set to launch in 2026, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of Simone de Beauvoir's passing.
