Nan Goldin, Molly Crabapple and Laura Poitras arrested at Wall Street protest against arms manufacturers

On October 14, more than 200 demonstrators, including artists Nan Goldin, Molly Crabapple, and filmmaker Laura Poitras, were taken into custody during a Jewish Voice for Peace protest outside the New York Stock Exchange. Around 500 individuals participated in a sit-in at Wall Street, aimed at condemning arms manufacturers such as Lockheed Martin for their involvement in supplying weapons used in Israel's military operations against Gaza and Lebanon. Those arrested have been charged with trespassing but have since been released. Protesters donned 'Not In Our Name' shirts over the Charging Bull (1989) and Fearless Girl (2017) statues, displaying banners proclaiming 'Gaza Bombed, Wall Street Booms', 'Stop Arming Israel', and 'Fund FEMA Not Genocide'. Molly Crabapple shared with Hyperallergic that U.S. government support is enabling the destruction of beloved people and places by Israeli bombs, highlighting war crimes visible on smartphones. This demonstration took place amid the ongoing conflict that erupted after Hamas's attack on Israel on October 7, which resulted in 1,180 fatalities, with Palestinian deaths in Gaza and Lebanon totaling 42,979 as reported.
