Namsal Siedlecki's dual New York exhibitions explore transience and alchemy

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Italian artist Namsal Siedlecki (born 1986 in Greenfield, USA, lives in Seggiano) opens two concurrent exhibitions in New York City. The solo show 'Viandanti' (Wanderers) is presented at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura di New York through December 4, 2021, organized by Magazzino Italian Art, the Italian Cultural Institute, and Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò (NYU). It features three new works: 'Viandante', 'Nuovo Positivo', and 'Verneuil' (all 2021). Simultaneously, a site-specific installation 'Trevis Maponos' (2021) debuts at Magazzino Italian Art in Cold Spring, New York. The exhibitions center on themes of travel, transformation, and extinction. 'Estinti' (2021) uses a marble type no longer available due to over-mining. 'Verneuil' is a bronze cast of a furnace used to produce synthetic rubies, highlighting human artifice. 'Viandante' employs a galvanic bath to chemically alter a human-shaped sculpture. 'Nuovo Positivo' uses 3D printing to create a wax version of voids from the bronze original of 'Estinti'.
