Namsal Siedlecki Releases Nanoscale Boccioni Sculpture in Rome
Italian-American artist Namsal Siedlecki, born in Greenfield in 1986 and based in Seggiano, Tuscany, has created a microscopic version of Umberto Boccioni's 1913 Futurist sculpture "Unique Forms of Continuity in Space." Collaborating with Dr. Sara Nocentini, a researcher at INRiM and part of Prof. Diederik S. Wiersma's group at the European Laboratory for Non-Linear Spectroscopy (LENS), Siedlecki used a 3D model of the original to produce a micrometric replica smaller than a dust grain. The nano-sculpture was "released" into the air at Spazio Taverna in Rome, a new project directed by Ludovico Pratesi focusing on the intersection of art and innovation. Siedlecki commented on the work's paradoxical presence and absence, noting that someone might breathe it in or it could settle on clothing, traveling beyond control.
