Naked bronze statue of Monty Python's Terry Jones unveiled in Colwyn Bay

In Colwyn Bay, the birthplace of the late comedian Terry Jones, a life-sized bronze statue depicting him as the 'nude organist' from Monty Python's Flying Circus has been revealed. Crafted by artist Nick Elphick from Llandudno, the statue was financed through a campaign that amassed £120,000 in just six months, with backing from surviving Pythons Sir Michael Palin, Terry Gilliam, John Cleese, and Eric Idle, along with celebrities like Emma Thompson, Steve Coogan, and Suzy Eddie Izzard. The artwork features Jones in a nude pose with a flapping tie and wild hair, merging an organ with a writing desk that nods to his medieval history books. Sir Michael Palin remarked that Jones would have found the tribute "very funny indeed." The unveiling occurred on Saturday, with Palin and Gilliam present. Jones passed away in 2020 at the age of 77 due to a rare form of dementia. He co-wrote and acted in Monty Python films such as Life of Brian, The Meaning of Life, and co-directed The Holy Grail. Elphick dedicated 15-hour days for nearly a year and a half to complete the statue, consulting Jones' family to perfect his smile.
