award · 2026-04-22

Nairy Baghramian has been named the winner of the 2023 Aspen Award for Art, established in 2005 by the Aspen Art Museum to honor artists making outstanding contributions to contemporary art. She will receive the prize at the Annual ArtCrush Gala on Friday, August 4, 2023, during the third edition of Aspen ArtWeek. The gala is co-chaired by Jamie Tisch, Sara Zilkha, and Chandra Johnson. Baghramian is also the 2023 ArtCrush Artist Honoree. The award coincides with a major solo exhibition at the Aspen Art Museum in Colorado, titled Nairy Baghramian: Jupon de Corps, running from June 22 to October 22, 2023. The exhibition presents a selection of artworks from the past decade, including a new body of sculptures created specifically for the museum's outdoor space. It highlights thematic threads in her practice, such as 20th-century art historical traditions, bodily attitudes, and the social and psychological implications of prosthetics. Her material experimentation spans steel, silicon, resin, leather, wax, and wood.
