Nairy Baghramian's 'Misfits' Opens at GAM Milan as Third Furla Series Exhibition

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Fondazione Furla has launched the third edition of Furla Series with 'Misfits', a solo exhibition by Iranian-born artist Nairy Baghramian at Milan's Galleria d'Arte Moderna (GAM). Curated by Bruna Roccasalva, it is Baghramian's first solo show in an Italian institution. The exhibition explores the relationship between aesthetic objects and institutional contexts through sculpture, featuring works in marble produced with Fondazione Henraux, painted aluminum, and wood. The show spans five rooms of the neoclassical museum, engaging with interior and exterior spaces, including the English garden of Villa Reale. A key work, 'Jumbled Alphabet', is a photographic portrait of a defiant child. Baghramian, born in Isfahan in 1971 and based in Berlin since 1984, has investigated sculptural form, physicality, and political potential for two decades. Furla Series, initiated in 2017, previously collaborated with Museo del Novecento and Triennale Milano.
