Nairy Baghramian's 'Jupon de Corps' at Aspen Art Museum

exhibition · 2026-04-22

The Aspen Art Museum presents 'Jupon de Corps', a major solo exhibition by Nairy Baghramian, bringing together key works from the past decade alongside new outdoor sculptures. Born in Iran in 1971, Baghramian fled to Berlin in 1984, where she lives. The show spans two floors, featuring pieces that engage with art historical traditions, bodily attitudes, and prosthetic devices. Works like 'B 75, BH, Mod. NB, Ref. CO, MM' (2012) reference Claes Oldenburg's 'Ghost Wardrobe (for M. M.)' (1967). 'Slip of the Tongue' (2015) uses a raised platform and glass vitrine. New outdoor sculptures continue the 'Sitzengeblieben (Stay Downers)' series in candy colors. 'Headgear' (2016) hangs in the stairwell, exploring dental device dynamics. 'Chin Up (First Fitting)' and 'Scruff of the Neck' series (all 2016) use plaster and aluminum. 'Maintainers' series and 'French Curve' (2014) in aluminum and synthetic resin are also included. Curated by Nicola Lees and Stella Bottai.
