Nairy Baghramian's First French Solo Show at Carré d'Art

Nairy Baghramian, born in 1971 in Isfahan, Iran, and based in Berlin, presents her first solo exhibition in a French museum at Carré d'Art in Nîmes. The exhibition, titled 'Parloir,' transforms eight rooms into reception spaces that encourage dialogue, referencing her 2006 work 'Reception Room.' Baghramian's sculptures, made from steel, glass, silicon, resin, cork, and copper, challenge traditional notions of volume, mass, form, and theatricality. Her work explores relationships between architecture, everyday objects, and the human body, confronting preconceived ideas of functionality, decoration, abstraction, domesticity, and feminism. The exhibition runs from an unspecified date, with no dramaturgy or climax; each room remains autonomous, focusing on spatial dynamics. Baghramian has previously exhibited at major institutions including Secession Vienna, GAM Milan, MUDAM Luxembourg, Museo Reina Sofia Madrid, SMK Copenhagen, Walker Art Center Minneapolis, S.M.A.K Ghent, Museo Tamayo Mexico City, Museo Serralves Porto, and the Art Institute of Chicago. She participated in Skulptur Projekte Münster (2017/2007), documenta 14 (2017), Lyon Biennale (2017), Berlin Biennale (2014/2008), and the 54th and 58th Venice Biennale (2011/2019).
