Nairy Baghramian receives 2023 Nivola Award for Sculpture, with exhibition planned for 2024
Iranian artist Nairy Baghramian has been selected as the 2023 recipient of the Nivola Award for Sculpture. The award ceremony is scheduled for September at the Nivola Museum. Baghramian, originally from Isfahan and now living in Berlin, investigates spatial and material relationships in her practice. Her work frequently questions established norms while examining social structures. Recent solo exhibitions have featured at the Aspen Art Museum in Aspen (2023), the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas (2022), Secession in Vienna (2022), and GAM, Galleria d’arte Moderna in Milan (2021). The Nivola Award, honoring Italian sculptor Costantino Nivola (1911–1988), recognizes artists who align with his artistic principles. After a hiatus, the award has been reinstated this year. Past laureates include Eduardo Chillida and Cy Twombly. A solo exhibition curated by Giuliana Altea, Antonella Camarda, and Luca Cheri will debut in summer 2024.
