Nacho Valentini’s Enelgumeni Project Transforms Pescara’s Utility Boxes into Playful Characters

Nacho Valentini, an Italian-Argentinian art director and illustrator, has adorned more than 50 electrical utility cabinets in Pescara, Italy, through his urban intervention initiative titled “Enelgumeni.” These cabinets have been reimagined as whimsical characters inspired by sports, cinema, celebrity culture, mythology, and local figures, featuring icons like Maradona, Serena Williams, Harry Potter, Frida Kahlo, and the Pope. Valentini collaborates with e-Distribuzione, the Italian electricity distributor, and a local cultural group, utilizing water-based Montana spray paint. He describes his approach as “revealing what is already there,” as many cabinets resemble cartoonish figures. The project blends street art, character design, and public-space psychology, transforming mundane infrastructure into delightful urban elements. The community has responded positively, frequently stopping to take photos and express appreciation for the enhancements. As Valentini finds more cabinets, the project continues to grow.
