NABA Students Stage 'Sabotage the Biennale' Pavilion in Milan

exhibition · 2026-04-26

On June 20, 2024, students in their first year of visual arts and curatorial studies at NABA in Milan unveiled 'Sabotare la Biennale: istruzioni per l’uso' (Sabotage the Biennale: Instructions for Use). This dissident pavilion draws inspiration from the political protests that occurred at the Venice Biennale in 1968, 1974, and 1976. Elvira Vannini coordinated the project, which challenges the eurocentric nature of the Biennale system, particularly the 60th edition overseen by Adriano Pedrosa. The design team comprised Nicola Faini, Alessandra Martina, Daniela Noviello, Sidonie Pellegrino, Kamil Sanders, and Claudia Spoto, showcasing documents and reproductions of protest posters. Performances by Rebecca Momoli, Alessandro Macciardi, and Amal Basir highlighted decolonial counter-narratives and historical protests. Daniela Noviello aspires to take the pavilion beyond the university.
