NAAW Renovates TAL Family Restaurant in Almaty
The renovation of TAL, a family restaurant in Almaty, Kazakhstan, has been completed by the architecture firm NAAW, under the leadership of Elvira Bakubayeva and Aisulu Uali. Finished in 2025, this 600 m² project was curated by Miwa Negoro. Situated adjacent to a mosque, TAL has traditionally served as a gathering place for families, memorial meals, and large communal dinners. The renovation focused on maintaining the restaurant's welcoming ambiance while infusing a modern, tranquil, and architecturally unified identity. The design team, which included Victoria Akram (design), Arailym Mukhmedjanova (technical), and Assel Nussipkozhanova (interior design), emphasized materials, light, proportions, and spatial rituals without relying on overt national motifs. Damir Otegen provided the photography.
