Myriam Laplante's Site-Specific Performance at Castello di Roccascalegna
Myriam Laplante, a Canadian artist born in Bangladesh in 1954 and based in Perugia since 1985, presented the site-specific performance 'C’era una volta' at the Castello Medievale di Roccascalegna in Abruzzo. Curated by Adina Pugliese, the work integrated the castle's magical, dreamlike atmosphere. Using minimal means and focusing on the body, the performance began with three keywords: fairy tale, moral, and doubt. Laplante posed a series of interactive questions, such as 'How did I end up in this hole?' and 'Are you more afraid of natural disasters or human stupidity?', eventually animating a puppet in a surreal dance. Her works have been shown in Europe, North America, and Asia. She has been part of the Black Market International performance collective since 2001. Her pieces are held in the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna and MACRO in Rome, the Musée National des beaux-arts du Québec, the Musée National de la Photographie in Ottawa, and numerous private collections.
