My Chemical Romance Reunion Uses Certosa di Bologna Sculpture as Promo Image
On October 31, 2019, the emo-core band My Chemical Romance announced their reunion after seven years of silence. The announcement was accompanied by a photograph of the sculpture "Anima e Angelo" by 19th-century artist Pasquale Rizzoli, located in the Cimitero Monumentale della Certosa di Bologna, one of Europe's oldest cemeteries. The photo was taken by Luigi Boccardo and sourced from the free image platform Unsplash. The sculpture, completed in 1906, depicts a female figure ascending to heaven with an angel, commissioned by the widow of war veteran Natale Magnani. Roberto Grandi, President of Istituzione Bologna Musei, noted the strong synergy between the band's music and the image's mystical ascent. The band's management chose the photo for their world tour poster. After Grandi requested that the band credit the location and photographer, a Facebook post with that information garnered over 215,000 views, providing unprecedented promotion for the Certosa. The band's first reunion show is scheduled for December 20, 2019 at the Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles.
