MVRDV Wins Competition to Redesign Turin's Galleria d'Arte Moderna
A renovation competition for Turin's Galleria d'Arte Moderna (GAM), Italy's oldest civic modern art museum, was won by a consortium led by MVRDV from Rotterdam, along with Italian partners BALANCE ARCHITETTURA and EP&S Group. The competition, initiated in April 2025 by Fondazione Torino Musei and others, attracted 49 submissions, with the winner revealed in December 2025. The jury awarded €100,000 for the first prize, commending the design for improving city accessibility, establishing a new public square, and restoring the original 1960s architecture. With a budget of €27 million, the project aims to transform GAM into a cultural hub, with construction slated to commence in the first half of 2027 and a public presentation scheduled for early 2026.
