MUVEC Opens in Mestre as New Contemporary Art Hub

On April 25, 2026, MUVEC – Casa delle Contemporaneità opened in Mestre, a new museum promoted by the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia. Housed within the Centro Culturale Candiani, the museum spans two levels with a permanent collection and temporary exhibition spaces. The permanent collection, drawn from the civic collections of Ca' Pesaro, is organized around three themes: Ricostruzione, Costruzione, Decostruzione. It features works by Emilio Vedova, Joseph Kosuth, and Bill Viola, among others. The opening weekend (April 25–26) offered free admission. Since April 24, the third floor has hosted the Premio Mestre di Pittura group show. A major exhibition on Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, and Oskar Kokoschka, juxtaposed with contemporary artists like Vanessa Beecroft and Marlene Dumas, is scheduled from September 26, 2026. The museum aims to function as an urban and social space, with a new entrance on Piazzale Candiani, an elevated walkway, and participatory educational programs.
