Mutual Empathies Final Exhibition at Rupert, Vilnius

The final exhibition of the Mutual Empathies programme at the Rupert Centre for Art, Residencies, and Education in Vilnius will showcase the works of resident artists Saule Suleimenova and Maithu Bùi. Scheduled to open on 14 August 2026, the exhibition is curated by JL Murtaugh, alongside curatorial fellow Katažyna Jankovska. This six-week residency culminates in artistic responses to themes of violence and its consequences, delving into collective memory, inherited stories, and remnants of war. Suleimenova will unveil new large-scale cellophane paintings and sculptures from her Zheti Ana series, while Bùi will present the Punched Cards series and found scrap metal pieces. The event will also feature open studios for attendees to view research materials. Mutual Empathies is a long-term collaboration between Rupert and the Goethe-Institut Lithuania, spearheaded by JL Murtaugh and Anna Maria Strauß. The 2026 edition receives funding from the Lithuanian Council for Culture and Goethe-Institut Lithuania, with additional support from Vilnius City Municipality and partner INVL Family Office.
