Mutina's 'non-prize' awarded to Jochen Lempert at FIAC 2017
At FIAC Art Fair 2017 in Paris, Italian ceramics brand Mutina awarded the second edition of its 'non-prize' This Is Not a Prize to German photographer Jochen Lempert. Lempert, born in Moers in 1958 and based in Hamburg, was presented by Barcelona gallery ProjecteSD. The prize, part of Mutina for Art, includes flexible support for a future project over the following year. Lempert's practice includes experimental film with the collective Schmelzdahin (1979-89). He won the Ars Viva 95/96 Photographie Prize in 1995 and has exhibited in Germany, Switzerland, Portugal, the US, and Canada, including at the 2012 Triennal de Paris at Palais de Tokyo curated by Okwui Enwezor. The jury, composed of designer Ronan Bouroullec, curator Sarah Cosulich (Mutina for Art), curator Cristiano Raimondi (Nouveau Musée National de Monaco), and CEO Massimo Orsini (Mutina), selected Lempert for his artistic language that transcends definitions, praising the freshness and depth of his images, their ability to blur boundaries between aesthetics and spontaneity, and their fluid dialogue with nature and abstraction. The previous edition, awarded at Artissima, went to Giorgio Andreotta Calò, with Mutina supporting his project for the Italian Pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennale.
