Musson Brown and Miltiadou Cook Mitzman complete flatpack CLT home in Newcastle
In the Jesmond suburb of Newcastle, UK, Musson Brown Architects and Miltiadou Cook Mitzman have finalized a 420-square-metre courtyard residence. This home, designed for a retired couple desiring tranquility, features a U-shaped configuration that surrounds a lush courtyard. To reduce waste, construction time, and carbon footprint, the cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels were manufactured off-site. The exterior showcases red brick, weathered steel, and glass, nodding to Edwardian architectural styles. Inside, a subtle color scheme of white and light timber floors prevails. The ground level is equipped with a lift for accessibility, while the main bedroom suite is located upstairs, linked by a glass corridor to a rooftop terrace. Photography by Richard Chivers.
