Musica in Prossimità festival explores contemporary music in Pinerolo
The two-day festival Musica in Prossimità, organized by L'Associazione La Terra Galleggiante as part of the Teatro in Prossimità season, took place on May 19-20, 2017 in Pinerolo, near Turin. The program featured the Quartetto Maurice, who premiered a commissioned piece by composer Marco Momi titled 'Vuoi che i passi accadano' for string quartet and staged electronics. Momi, a recognized and award-winning composer and teacher at Italian conservatories, also reviewed student scores. French composer Ghédalia Tazartès (born 1947 in Paris to a Turkish Jewish family) performed, known for his indefinable, empirical style. A dialogue titled 'Zero tolerance for silence' with philosopher, journalist, and musicologist Vincenzo Santarcangelo focused on Fausto Romitelli, an Italian composer influential in contemporary experimentalism and spectral music. The festival concluded with percussionist Simone Beneventi, who has collaborated with Romitelli and others, presenting a solo blending multimedia art installation and modern composition theory, and the ensemble Soundinitiative, founded in Paris in 2011 with members from France, Australia, China, Poland, Italy, and the United States, integrating scenography, video, and body expression. The concerts were held at Teatro del Lavoro, Salone dei Cavalieri, and Cascina Tegassa.
