Museum Wiesbaden Restores 26 Works by Symbolist Georg Lührig
The Museum Wiesbaden has successfully restored 26 preparatory pieces by Georg Lührig (1868–1957), an important artist associated with Dresden Symbolism and Jugendstil. The restoration received financial support from the Kulturstiftung der Länder (€23,730) and its Freundeskreis (€15,000). Lührig's frescoes "Der Tag – Sieg des Lichts" and "Die Nacht" were lost in 1945, leaving behind only designs, which include the restored works. In 2024, the museum acquired approximately 60 pieces from the Lührig family estate, with half being a donation. These, along with a previously restored design for "Der Tag," are the sole references for the 1906/1907 murals. The restored pieces will be on display from May 22, 2026, to January 17, 2027.
