Museum of Candy to Open in New York's Chelsea Neighborhood
The Museum of Candy, a colorful museum dedicated to sweets, is set to open in New York's Chelsea neighborhood next summer. The project is promoted by Sugar Factory, a candy manufacturer with restaurants and retail outlets worldwide, led by Charissa Davidovici. The museum will be housed in a deconsecrated church of nearly 3,000 square meters at the corner of 20th Street and 6th Avenue, formerly the site of the famous Limelight nightclub. Admission will cost $25, including tastings and ice cream. The museum will feature a Willy Wonka-style setup with candy-covered walls, a large unicorn, and the world's largest gummy bear, along with a market and outdoor café accessible without a ticket. It will be Instagram-friendly with selfie stations and the hashtag #Museumofcandy. Plans are already underway to expand the format to Los Angeles. The Museum of Candy follows the trend of improbable museums in the US, such as the Museum of Selfies in Glendale, opening April 1, and the Ice Cream Museum, which debuted in New York in 2016 and has traveled to San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Miami.
