Museum of Art Pudong Opens in Shanghai with Three Inaugural Exhibitions
On September 26, 2017, the Museum of Art Pudong, crafted by Pritzker Prize laureate Jean Nouvel, was inaugurated at 2777 Binjiang Avenue in Shanghai, situated beneath the Oriental Pearl Tower. This 40,000-square-meter establishment, funded by Shanghai Lujiazui Co. Ltd., is adorned with white granite that mimics frosted glass and features galleries illuminated by natural light. A 53-meter bridge links the second floor to the eastern riverbank. The museum aims to be a center for exhibitions, education, and cultural interaction, having established a Memorandum of Understanding with the Tate Board for staff development. Current exhibitions include "Light: Works from Tate's Collection" (running until November 14, 2021), "Joan Miró. Women, Birds, Stars" (until November 2021), and Cai Guo-Qiang's "Encounter with the Unknown" (until March 7, 2022).
