Museum Maintenance Staff Nearly Discards Sculpture Mistaken for Trash
A sculpture by French artist Alexandre Lavet was nearly thrown out by maintenance staff at the LAM museum in Lisse, Netherlands. The work, titled 'All The Good Times We Spent Together', consists of two meticulously painted aluminum cans replicating Jupiler beer branding. Curator Elisah van den Bergh noticed the artwork missing from its display location in the museum's elevator and retrieved it from a bin just before disposal. Van den Bergh explained to The Guardian that the staff member was simply performing his duties. Lavet, who is based in Brussels, creates work exploring themes of emptiness and disappearance. His beer cans pay homage to Brussels streets, artists' studios, social gatherings, and exhibition openings. The LAM museum intentionally places artworks in unexpected locations as part of its curatorial approach. One can stands upright while another lies crumpled on its side in the sculpture.
