Museum MACAN director Aaron Seeto to step down in January
Aaron Seeto, the inaugural director of Museum MACAN in Jakarta, is set to wrap up his seven-year term on January 31, 2024. The museum, celebrated for its modern and contemporary art collections from Indonesia and beyond, made the announcement today. Before joining MACAN, Seeto was the curatorial manager for Asian and Pacific art at the Queensland Art Gallery in Brisbane and contributed significantly to the 8th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art. During his tenure at MACAN, he curated notable exhibitions with artists such as Xu Bing, Yayoi Kusama, and Lee Mingwei. In a statement, Seeto expressed gratitude for the opportunity to build a museum in a vibrant art scene. He plans to explore new ventures outside Asia. Meanwhile, Fenessa Adikoesoemo, the current chairwoman of the Museum MACAN Foundation, will serve as the main spokesperson while they search for Seeto's replacement.
