Museum Jorn Opens New Gallery Dedicated to Asger Jorn's Italian Period

The Museum Jorn in Silkeborg, Denmark, inaugurated a new gallery on November 11 dedicated to Danish artist Asger Jorn (1914–1973), a key figure of the CoBrA movement and co-founder of the Situationist International. The gallery focuses on Jorn's Italian period, from his arrival in Albissola Marina in 1954 to his marble sculpture in Carrara in the early 1970s. It features works including a canvas made with Enrico Baj, a vase created with Wifredo Lam, and ceramics from the Ceramiche San Giorgio workshop, which Jorn called his "Fabbrica dei Sogni" (Dream Factory). Two previously unseen ceramic works are also displayed. A video offers a tour of Casa Museo Jorn in Albissola Marina. The project results from collaboration between the Museum Jorn and Casa Museo Jorn, coordinated with the Fondazione Museo della Ceramica di Savona. Jorn settled in Albissola in 1954, where he created key works such as "Stalingrad" and "The Great Relief," and fostered an international artistic community. The Museum Jorn holds Denmark's second-largest art collection. The initiative aims to present Jorn's European dimension, linking Scandinavia and the Mediterranean.
