Museum De Pont Celebrates 25 Years with ReView Exhibition

Museum De Pont in Tilburg, Netherlands, marks its 25th anniversary with the exhibition 'ReView,' running from September 16, 2017, to January 18, 2018. Founded in 1989 by entrepreneur J. H. De Pont (1915-1987), the museum initially had neither a building nor a collection. Director Hendrik Driessen led the institution from the start, with first acquisitions shown in the 1992 inaugural exhibition 'Opening.' The museum hosts three annual shows featuring artists whose works it has acquired or plans to acquire. Early-career artists like Rosemarie Trockel, Roni Horn, Jeff Wall, Luc Tuymans, and Anish Kapoor exhibited there in the mid-1990s. The collection, built on intuition rather than market trends, includes Tacita Dean, Sigmar Polke, Gerhard Richter, Bill Viola, and Mark Wallinger. Housed in a converted wool factory by Benthem Crouwel Architects, the museum added a photography, film, and video wing in 2016, along with a café and terrace. 'ReView' revisits works from the inaugural show, such as Richard Long's 'Planet Circle,' Marlene Dumas's 'The First People,' and Roni Horn's 'Pair Field,' alongside installations by Christian Boltanski, Robert Therrien, and Ai Weiwei. A new Anish Kapoor sculpture, the artist's first public installation in a Dutch city, will be placed at the museum entrance, funded by the municipality of Tilburg, local businesses, citizens, Brabant C, and the museum.
