Museu Oscar Niemeyer Sparks Controversy with Private Wedding Event

institutional · 2026-04-19

On October 12, the Museu Oscar Niemeyer (MON) in Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil, received backlash for hosting a private wedding for Yasmin Bonilha and Gregorio Nissel. Yasmin is the offspring of Ivan Lelis Bonilha, a member of the Tribunal de Contas do Estado do Paraná. The wedding, themed around One Thousand and One Nights, was orchestrated by the production company of Ilze Lambach. The museum, which is associated with the State Secretariat of Culture, justified the rental by stating it was approved by the Associação de Amigos do MON (AAMON) to generate income. The MON, which boasts 14,000 artworks from artists such as Andy Warhol, draws over 200,000 visitors each year and is currently being considered for national listing by Iphan.
