MusEQ: Rome's Esquilino district becomes an interactive museum

digital · 2026-04-27

The Esquilino district in Rome has been transformed into a large interactive museum through MusEQ, a project developed by GruppoMeta. Winner of the 2019 regional call 'L'impresa fa cultura', MusEQ is a software ecosystem that connects museums with the entire territory via a mobile app. QR codes and beacons placed at points of interest—including historic shops, churches, pharmacies, and professional studios—allow users to access personalized cultural itineraries. The project is supported by associations Piazza Vittorio APS and Esquilino Chiama Roma, in collaboration with the Museo Nazionale Romano and Centrale Montemartini, under the patronage of Enpam. Giovanni Verreschi, CEO of ETT (which controls GruppoMeta), praised the initiative as an example of dialogue between STEM and humanities, embodying a 'new Renaissance' mindset.
