Museo Tonino Guerra Reopens in Santarcangelo After Restoration

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-26

The museum 'Nel mondo di Tonino Guerra' in Santarcangelo di Romagna has reopened after being closed since 2020. The space, located in the Palazzo dell'ex Monte di Pietà, underwent structural restoration and now displays around sixty works by the poet, screenwriter, and artist Tonino Guerra (1920–2012), who wrote 120 films including L'Avventura (Antonioni) and Amarcord (Fellini). The new exhibition includes photographs Guerra took in Moscow in the 1980s, printed by German photographer Dirk Vogel and never shown before, as well as prints made with artist Lucio Bernardi. Also on view are sculptures, ceramics, tapestries, and the 'Lanterne di Tolstoj' iron sculptures inspired by a trip to Astapovo station where Tolstoy died, and 'I Vasi per un Fiore Soltanto' ceramics celebrating local craftsmanship. The museum is run by the Associazione culturale Tonino Guerra, directed by Andrea Guerra, the poet's son. The reopening occurred on the anniversary of Guerra's death, March 21. Additionally, the 'Giornate di marzo per Tonino' festival runs until April 2, 2025, featuring film screenings, poetry readings, and book presentations, concluding at Cinema Gambrinus in Pennabilli with the film Vermiglio by Maura Delpero, attended by actress Martina Scrinzi. The poet's wife Lora Guerra had previously appealed for the preservation of both the museum and Guerra's house-museum in Pennabilli.
