digital · 2026-04-27

During the COVID-19 quarantine, the Museo Tattile Omero in Ancona, Italy, launched a radio program titled "Toccare l'Arte alla Radio" to make art accessible to blind and visually impaired people. The initiative, in collaboration with Slash Radio Web (the official radio of the Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired), began on April 2, 2020, and runs for three consecutive Thursdays at 3:30 PM, each episode lasting 30 minutes. The program is hosted by Andrea Socrati, the project manager, and journalist Chiara Gargioli. The first episode focused on Filippo Tommaso Marinetti and tactile art; subsequent episodes cover Surrealism and the revenge of the senses. Museum director Aldo Grassini also contributes, guiding listeners through Italian museums. The project aims to alleviate domestic solitude and continue cultural engagement despite physical closures, as part of the Mibact campaign #laculturanonsiferma. The Museo Tattile Omero has been a reference point for the blind and visually impaired for 26 years.
